With the increase in global greenhouse gas emission, climate change is becoming a harsh reality. Thus, in order to avert a greater crisis, the world will have to adopt the low carbon strategy. The way we do development will have to adhere the principle of low carbon future to attain sustainable development. We will have to rethink on how we produce energy and how we live our lives. There is an urgent need to move from fossil fuel based energy production to renewable energy.
As many countries around the world gear up to adopting this strategy, Nepal is also working to finalize a Low Carbon Economic Development Strategy. Having prioritized sectors such as energy, housing, transportation, forestry and agriculture among others, Nepal has kicked off a good start. Such a practice should be encouraged and widely promoted.
PRC promotes the sectors of renewable energy and low carbon development and encourages green cities. Participation and involvement of private sectors is a major focus.
